The automotive race car driver world is super competitive, after all, who among us has not thought themseves a race car driver at one time or another? Alec Udell followed that path, starting young, and sticking with it while earning a college degree so he could try to be a little smarter in managing his career. Consumer Reports has a reputation for doing very thorough research on a wide variety of things. In the case of automotive, they often have 'secret buyers' that actual go out and buy the vehciles they will be doing long term research on. Generally it is the high volumn models as that is what consumers would appear to be buying. One of the biggest, if not THE biggest event in Las Vegas each year is the SEMA Show. Now this is the Specialty Equipment Manufacture Association, which translates into the automotive aftermarket show. It is not open to the public, but there sure is a lot of automotive 'builders and the like' there to see the latest and greatest parts for our vehicles. This year, it seems the OEMs were a little more involved than in the past. In automotive history, there are a lot of models that started out as great ideas, with features and styleing that was often advanced beyond competitors - sometimes a little to advanced. A few of these models developed a following by collectors due to the low production numbers, however, a few were gathered up by owners that not only appreciated the vehicle for what it is, but for 'driving'. One of these is the Cadillac Allante' that has a national following that started in 1994 as well as many regional clubs. Tri-Five Chevys seem to always stand out as cool cars or hot rods, particularly the convertibles. They are just not around very often, and more times than not, it is the '57 drop top that we see. So when a '55 convertible with Pennsylvania plates rolls into the Tailpipes & Tacos cruize located in Katy, Texas, we had to check it out. Donna O'Dey joins the crew this segment with her story about how her father bought the car new, taught her and her siblings how to drive in it, and then when he passed away, Donna brought the car to Texas.
