For 27years - gott'a count those COVID years - the Lakewood Yacht Club has been host to one of the more unique 'shows' in the country. It is an 'invite only' show that not only includes some of the finest automobiles in the country, but classic boats that show on the water. Beautiful wooden boats that have been restored are mixed with yachts on the water surrounded by classic automobiles, the type of which are often seen at places like Pebble Beach. This is a two-day event, and the man responsible for leading the all volunteer team to hold this event is Bob Fuller. For 37 years, the Spindletop Rod Club has held their annual car show - despite hurricans and storms. Mother Nature did win the fall weather battle, so the event was moved to the spring when the weather is much more cooperative and let's the event grow back to being one of the premirer events in SE Texas. This is an open show so long as the vehicle is at least 30-years old. John Carnahan, owner of an awesome '69 Camaro that he has owned for over 40 years, joins us with an update on this years event. Regardless of where you are on the idea of EVs replacing ICE vehicles, most auto guys agree that when it comes to outright performance, the instantanious torque of an electric motor can be interesting to say the least. Not only are the factories starting to let a little EV performance out of the tool shed, but the aftermarket has been quietly making noise as well. We have talked with people that have done their own backyard EV conversions on small trucks and cars to shops that are specializing in high-wnd conversions. We even found a shop that is making a cover for an EV motor that looks like a V8 for hoodless hot rods. The things hot rodders do! It is a well deserved name that has been around for a lot of years and it has the awards to show for it. Marc and his team do some restorations, but their bread and butter is the hot rod buildup. This runs from early coupes to muscle cars that need a little more juice in this modern world. Each week, we look for an active car club to highlight as we think car clubs are the backbone of the automotive enthusiasts sport.
