Short track oval racing is a form of motorsport that takes place on oval-shaped tracks typically less than one mile in length.  Unlike other forms of racing, short track oval racing creates an emphasis  on driver skill and strategy over outright speed due to the track layout.  Short track oval racing is also known for its grassroots nature, with local tracks and regional series creating an unofficial farm league the is playing a role in the growth of the sport. The idea of a bunch of hot rodders getting together is nothing new.  It has been going on for who knows how long - almost any town across America probably has a hang- out for Friday or Saturday night.  Maybe even on a spring Sunday afternoon.   According to organizer Bobby Sparkman, 'Our mission is to bring like minded car and truck enthusiast together to get their vehicles out of the garage for a multi-day event across Texas in a family friendly environment.'  From this idea, the Hot Rod Tour of Texas was born.  Now in the second year, 300-automotive enthusiasts signed up to start the tour in Victoria, Texas.  Don Armstrong made the initial event, and this year, the rest of the crew couldn't stand not getting involved.  So we met up with the tour and tagged along talking to some of the participants and the a few of the hosts.   In this episode,  we learn about a '49 Wyllis Wagon that came over from Louisiana, we pay a visit to the Sampson Machine shop, and find a road ready Chevy …

Just outside of Houston, sits the Lakewood Yacht Club - a very picturesque location with tall trees and water access.  The club it's self is pretty cool, but once a year, they host the Keels & Wheel Concour event that makes extensive use of the setting. The entry is lined in the tall trees, and this is where visitors will find that 'wheels' portion of the event.  Each and every vehicle is hand chosen for each year and situated on the grounds to facilitate a family setting that shows off the vehicles.
