So a closer inspection is almost always necessary...but not always telling. It could be from Superformance, a company specializing in luxury racing replicas such as a Shelby Cobra that rolls into the Tailpipes & Tacos event one Saturday morning. General Motors has made a lot of changes over the years, even dropping some brands along the way. They also have had several partnership and manufacturing facilities around the world. In fact, a very popular vehicle down in Australia is, was, the Holden. There are several models include one called a UTE, or utility vehicle. Here in the states, we called the Chevrolet mode an El Camino or maybe the GMC version a Sprint. As we were sitting up the broadcast, we saw a bright white with blue trim Holden UTE roll into the Tailpipes & Tacos event. It was the first one any of us have seen in the wild, but here in Houston, we have one on the streets, complete with right-hand drive. Joining us today is Rick Parras who rolled in to the event behind the wheel of his 1940 DeSoto 4-door sedan. The car looks kind'a bland compared to some of the iron sitting around it, but then again, none of the other cars are 81-years old with only 87,000 original miles! In fact, the mohair interior was replaced just a few years ago as it was starting to look a little ragged. The first wrench rally proved to be successful, so why not do another? The basic idea behind the Wrench Rally is to take a 'vehicle', fix it a bit and make a road trip. Then the vehicle is donated to a viable charity that helps single parents, military or about anyone in need of a vehicle to make their life better. This event will run from Houston to Las Vegas with a stop at the Chaparal Museum in Midland, a night at a haunted hotel in Gallup New Mexico. and even the Shelby Museum plus some side trips on Route 66. A lot of fun for a good cause, so check out what Richard Tomlin from Apex Auto Works in Alvin has for an update. One of the largest truck and SUV shows in Texas, the Lone Star Throwdown is celebrating a 10th Anniversay! Joining the In Wheel Time crew today is Lonnie Ford, who along with Todd Hendrix, is the mastermind behind this great show. Utilizing the entire Montgomery County Fair Grounds, the show has a compination of trucks - high, low, and everything in between - along with SUVs and a few cars just to keep everything on the level.
