Southeast Texas can feel like a straight shot on the map, but it’s packed with stops that turn a simple drive into a full day of stories. We build a listener-friendly route through the Golden Triangle, starting in downtown Beaumont with the Texas Energy Museum for the oil boom history that still shapes American energy and industry. From there we keep it walkable and air-conditioned with the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, then step into a restored 1927 station at the Fire Museum of Texas, capped off by one of the weirdest legit landmarks around: the world’s largest working fire hydrant.

Then we head south for more local character, from Spindletop Gladys City Boomtown Museum’s throwback oil-field atmosphere to Port Arthur’s Museum of the Gulf Coast, where the region’s music and sports history shows up in ways you might not expect. Crossing the Rainbow Bridge adds a scenic moment before Orange, where the Stark Museum of Art and the 1894 Stark House deliver culture and architecture in the same block. We wrap the travel talk with Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, a 250-acre wetlands escape that’s perfect if you want birding, trails, and a calmer pace.

After the road trip, we go full truck mode with a Ford F-150 Hybrid King Ranch review, including real-world mpg, towing and payload capability, and what BlueCruise hands-free driving can and cannot do.

Jeff also breaks down the real reasons capless gas cap design became so common, from emissions control to fewer check-engine headaches.

Don closes with a 2026 Ram 1500 Longhorn review, covering the return of the 5.7L Hemi V8 with mild hybrid assist, a standout three-screen cabin, ride comfort, and the price reality of modern “luxury pickups.”

00:00:04.879 --> 00:00:07.360
Okay, uh are you gonna do driving destinations?

00:00:07.519 --> 00:00:09.519
Would you please do driving destinations?

00:00:10.080 --> 00:00:10.480
All right, brother.

00:00:11.919 --> 00:00:12.640
Get me set up, brother.

00:00:13.119 --> 00:00:13.519
There you go.

00:00:13.679 --> 00:00:14.880
It's all yours, brother.

00:00:15.199 --> 00:00:18.000
All right, so we have some people come over from Louisiana.

00:00:18.079 --> 00:00:30.000
Again, it's not very far over to Louisiana, and we got so we got a lot of out-of-town people coming in, so I thought we would look at some of the things that since you're here in Southeast Texas, you can start with by going downtown Beaumont to the Texas Energy Museum.

00:00:30.079 --> 00:00:34.159
And this is really where you're gonna get the whole old oil story for the area.

00:00:34.240 --> 00:00:37.200
Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, make up the Golden Triangle.

00:00:37.439 --> 00:00:42.719
Literally, at one point, we were doing 25% of the nation's gasoline was produced here and shipped out.

00:00:42.960 --> 00:00:48.640
Some of the largest refineries in the country and the world are located in the Golden Triangle area.

00:00:48.719 --> 00:00:59.759
So this really sets up, if you want to see about the drilling technology and the things that go into making the global energy markets and our position as a country in that, this is a great place to go and it is air conditioned.

00:01:00.000 --> 00:01:04.480
The second thing, while you're down there, you could go to the art museum of Southeast Texas.

00:01:04.640 --> 00:01:07.920
Now, this is a little bit quieter than the energy museum.

00:01:08.159 --> 00:01:14.400
Got a lot of uh regional and contemporary artworks, even though it does have a lot of industrial roots to it.

00:01:14.560 --> 00:01:19.920
Now there's a lot of rotating exhibits, so it kind of keeps things different, but it is more of an art museum.

00:01:20.159 --> 00:01:25.040
Then while you're down there, go a couple of blocks over and you get to the Fire Museum of Texas.

00:01:25.200 --> 00:01:28.400
This is the state museum or the fire museum of Texas.

00:01:28.799 --> 00:01:33.120
It's located in a 1927 fire station that was actually built back then.

00:01:33.359 --> 00:01:40.959
And it's got a lot of history in it in the exhibits because you can explore antique fire engines back into the 1800s.

00:01:41.200 --> 00:01:44.480
Got a lot of interactive displays for the kids, kind of keep them busy.

00:01:44.640 --> 00:01:50.560
And then while you're there, right outside the front door, is the world's largest working fire hydrant.

00:01:50.640 --> 00:01:54.079
Now, this is literally a 24-foot Dalmatian-spotted structure.

00:01:54.400 --> 00:02:04.959
Disney was using that to film 101 Dalmatians, and so once they got through with it, because it wasn't very far away here that they were doing that in Southeast Texas, they donated it to the State Fire Museum.

00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:13.120
Then on the way, we're gonna head a little south, and we're going to go down to the Spindletop Gladys City Boom Tom Museum.

00:02:13.599 --> 00:02:13.919
I've been there.

00:02:14.560 --> 00:02:15.840
It's a very cool place.

00:02:16.080 --> 00:02:18.639
It is, got a lot of things there if you get it at the right time.

00:02:18.719 --> 00:02:20.400
They actually have an oil derrick there.

00:02:20.639 --> 00:02:24.560
They also have an old gasoline tanker truck in the barn.

00:02:24.879 --> 00:02:26.080
You gotta see that see that.

00:02:26.479 --> 00:02:27.919
I think it was in one of the pictures.

00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:36.000
And they have a place for uh like a livery stable set up, but they'll set up and recreate the spindletop gusher that really kicked off the oil industry down here.

00:02:36.479 --> 00:02:40.639
And it's a real nice place to go, and it's located right there on the Lamar University.

00:02:40.960 --> 00:02:46.400
Then we're gonna go down south, back down towards Port Arthur, where you're gonna get to the Museum of Gulf Coast.

00:02:46.560 --> 00:02:55.520
Now, this is one of the places it's got a lot of local history in it, including uh locals like Janice Joplin, Jimmy me Jimmy Johnson.

00:02:55.599 --> 00:03:04.639
It's got a sports section in it to where you're gonna find you know Bum Phillips, Wade Phillips, things like that, and a lot of the other players have got a music section where Janice is.

00:03:04.879 --> 00:03:08.000
And let's not forget the uh the famous golfer, Babe Zaharius.

00:03:08.080 --> 00:03:08.800
I think she's from the.

00:03:09.039 --> 00:03:09.840
Larry McGillicutty.

00:03:09.919 --> 00:03:11.039
Larry McGillicutty was there.

00:03:11.120 --> 00:03:11.199
Yeah.

00:03:11.439 --> 00:03:11.599
Was he?

00:03:11.680 --> 00:03:12.639
Yeah, I think he's Mr.

00:03:12.719 --> 00:03:13.520
McGillicutty.

00:03:13.680 --> 00:03:13.919
Yeah, yeah.

00:03:14.240 --> 00:03:14.879
Okay, just saying.

00:03:15.039 --> 00:03:16.319
So it's a great place to go down there.

00:03:16.400 --> 00:03:23.039
It's in downtown Port Arthur, and there's a lot of stuff in there that's uh that you will recognize, but you won't recognize it is from Port Arthur.

00:03:23.199 --> 00:03:23.919
Then from Wales.

00:03:24.159 --> 00:03:26.240
We don't recognize anything at this point in our lives.

00:03:26.319 --> 00:03:26.800
Are you kidding?

00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:27.360
Yeah, from the.

00:03:27.520 --> 00:03:28.800
How many fingers am I holding up?

00:03:29.039 --> 00:03:29.520
Four?

00:03:30.159 --> 00:03:32.560
Then you're gonna go across the Rainbow Bridge.

00:03:32.719 --> 00:03:34.960
Now it's this is how you get to the body.

00:03:35.120 --> 00:03:36.400
So they're driving Subarus?

00:03:37.039 --> 00:03:37.280
No.

00:03:37.599 --> 00:03:38.560
I just said that.

00:03:39.520 --> 00:03:47.840
Now, this is a kind of a steep incline, got sweeping views on it, and it's great for going up over the Natus River on your way over to Orange.

00:03:47.919 --> 00:03:52.879
It's one of the tallest bridges and structures that's here in southeast Texas.

00:03:54.639 --> 00:04:03.599
And once you get across there, you're going over to Into Orange, you're gonna go to the Stark Museum of Orange of Art, and there this is in the cultural district, the downtown in Orange.

00:04:03.680 --> 00:04:07.840
You're gonna find a lot of paintings and sculptures, Native American artifacts that are around in there.

00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:09.919
So it's got a lot of setups in that regard.

00:04:10.080 --> 00:04:14.240
Now, across the street from that is the Stark House.

00:04:14.400 --> 00:04:20.959
Now, this is a house, an 1894 Queen Anne home that was built by the uh the Starks.

00:04:21.199 --> 00:04:24.240
You can actually go into all three of the floors.

00:04:24.399 --> 00:04:26.879
This place is 14,000 square feet.

00:04:27.120 --> 00:04:34.959
If you want to see how people lived in the late 1800s, early 1900s, uh, I guess what you would call it the luxury at the time, because that's what this was.

00:04:35.199 --> 00:04:38.879
So it's a great recreation and it's a great place to go and see how things work.

00:04:39.040 --> 00:04:43.360
And then while you're in orange to wrap things up, go over to the Shangri-La Botanical Gardens.

00:04:43.439 --> 00:04:46.399
Now, this is 250 acres along Adams Bio.

00:04:46.720 --> 00:04:55.519
It's got a lot of walkways, it's got uh garden paths, wetlands, and it's got a lot of things that you can go in if you enjoy bird watching and getting out into nature.

00:04:55.680 --> 00:04:58.800
It's got themed gardens, and it's really a even kids.

00:04:58.879 --> 00:05:04.480
I mean, they go out there because it's out in literally 250 acres in the swamp, and you can go see a lot of cool stuff.

00:05:04.720 --> 00:05:09.279
So that's just some things you can do while you're here in southeast Texas.

00:05:09.519 --> 00:05:12.240
And you're here for the tail pipes and tacos here in Beaumont.

00:05:13.920 --> 00:05:14.959
Well, thank you, Mr.

00:05:15.199 --> 00:05:15.839
Morris.

00:05:16.079 --> 00:05:18.639
I know I've always wanted to go to Shangri-La.

00:05:18.959 --> 00:05:19.600
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:05:19.839 --> 00:05:22.639
But uh I haven't ever been, but apparently it's here.

00:05:22.959 --> 00:05:23.680
You missed it.

00:05:23.920 --> 00:05:24.399
I've missed it.

00:05:24.720 --> 00:05:26.000
My wife's been to Shangri-La.

00:05:26.240 --> 00:05:28.319
I haven't been to Shangri-Law, but my wife's been to Shangri-La.

00:05:28.720 --> 00:05:29.839
Not through you, that's for sure.

00:05:40.240 --> 00:05:41.519
Time now for our car review.

00:05:41.600 --> 00:05:41.759
Mr.

00:05:42.000 --> 00:05:44.720
Mars drove the Ford F-150 hybrid.

00:05:45.040 --> 00:05:45.519
Yes, sir.

00:05:45.759 --> 00:05:48.879
Had a chance to drive this one uh for the last week or so.

00:05:49.199 --> 00:06:02.319
And and it's we talked about this a few weeks ago when I had one of the other Ford F-150s, more of a uh stripper as we would call it, an STX model, not nearly as loaded up as what the uh King Ranch is, by all by all means.

00:06:02.480 --> 00:06:07.040
So this final des assembly destination is location, is in Dearborn.

00:06:07.439 --> 00:06:10.879
Now there are eight available trim levels on the Ford F-150.

00:06:10.959 --> 00:06:14.560
There's three different cab sizes, three different bed sizes, different motors.

00:06:14.720 --> 00:06:18.000
There's like 20 combinations you can get out of the F-150.

00:06:18.079 --> 00:06:20.160
So there's bound to be something there you like.

00:06:20.240 --> 00:06:24.079
And if you want one that's on the luxury end, go for the King Ranch 4x4.

00:06:24.399 --> 00:06:28.879
This is a full-size pickup, seats five, and some really nice interiors.

00:06:29.199 --> 00:06:32.560
Now, on the outside of it, you're gonna find the King Ranch badging.

00:06:32.639 --> 00:06:39.680
You got LED headlights and fog lights, and even got side mirror spotlights and taillights, all of it LED, all the way around.

00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:47.759
It's got power deploying running boards, makes it a little bit nicer to step up into that because it does set up a little bit higher because of the four by four.

00:06:47.839 --> 00:06:50.000
It's even got a power rear glass on it.

00:06:50.160 --> 00:06:55.839
It's got the multifunctional tailgate that took me and a friend of mine about 20 minutes to figure out how to operate.

00:06:56.000 --> 00:06:56.240
Uh-oh.

00:06:56.399 --> 00:07:05.600
And then we also had the retractable center step in it, and once you got the tailgate operating like it's supposed to, that step works really well to step up in there, just like clipping up steps.

00:07:05.839 --> 00:07:12.800
Had the twin-panel moon roof on it, and we were rolling on some nice 22-inch wheels on it that makes it a really nice ride and drive.

00:07:13.040 --> 00:07:20.079
Interior, leather heated seats up front, even had leather heated seats on the second row.

00:07:20.319 --> 00:07:26.240
Front seats also are ventilated, so you got plenty of heat and cool choices there for the front passengers and the driver.

00:07:26.639 --> 00:07:27.600
And more enjoyable.

00:07:28.399 --> 00:07:32.879
It's available on 97% of controlled access highways called blue zones.

00:07:33.759 --> 00:07:38.480
Once you're on the highway, press the adaptive cruise control button on the steering wheel.

00:07:38.720 --> 00:07:47.920
Wait for the hands-free icon, and Blue Cruise helps with accelerating, braking, and steering so you can let go and relax while continuing to watch the road.

00:07:48.160 --> 00:07:52.639
Blue Cruise uses a driver-facing camera to help ensure your eyes stay on the road.

00:07:52.800 --> 00:08:00.879
The driver attention system was designed to remind you to pay attention, giving you visual and audio problems if your eyes are off the road for too long.

00:08:01.360 --> 00:08:05.519
Adaptive cruise control already adjusts your speed to the flow of traffic.

00:08:05.759 --> 00:08:10.399
Blue Cruise builds on that as a driver assistance feature, not a replacement.

00:08:10.639 --> 00:08:15.120
It helps monitor your position on the road and scans the traffic around you.

00:08:15.920 --> 00:08:23.279
In-lane repositioning detects approaching vehicles and can shift you over in the lane, providing a little extra room when you need it.

00:08:24.240 --> 00:08:26.879
Lane broadcasting, but continue with your view, please.

00:08:27.040 --> 00:08:28.879
I'm really not sure what that was then.

00:08:32.639 --> 00:08:34.000
So please continue your review.

00:08:35.039 --> 00:08:38.960
So up under the hood, you're gonna find a 3.5-liter hybrid setup.

00:08:39.039 --> 00:08:43.279
Now, this is the new setup from Ford, 400 horsepower, 500 pound feet of torque.

00:08:43.519 --> 00:08:46.240
And it's backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission.

00:08:46.720 --> 00:08:53.759
And this particular vehicle set up the way it is will tow 12,800 pounds and it'll haul 1,900 pounds.

00:08:53.840 --> 00:08:58.639
Now, again, this is a half-ton truck, so it should be about a thousand pounds, and that should be taken care of.

00:08:58.960 --> 00:09:00.080
But it's got plenty.

00:09:00.399 --> 00:09:06.720
EPA says you should be looking for about 22 miles per gallon in the city, 24 out on the highway, and 23 combined.

00:09:06.960 --> 00:09:12.080
Now, I will say that I drove this vehicle 325 miles and I got 21.2.

00:09:12.480 --> 00:09:17.200
Now, 54.3 miles of that was actually on the electric portion of the hybrid.

00:09:17.360 --> 00:09:18.720
So it worked out really well.

00:09:19.200 --> 00:09:24.240
The uh, and it does have a really nice luxury ride for a full-size pickup.

00:09:24.399 --> 00:09:28.559
It's got great acoustics in it, so that audio is really sounds really well.

00:09:28.639 --> 00:09:35.840
It's nice and quiet out on the highway, and you can tell that you're really into a more of a luxury setting than what the other truck was.

00:09:36.080 --> 00:09:38.879
Uh, it really surprised me that there was really that much difference in it.

00:09:38.960 --> 00:09:43.440
Now, the base trim price for this vehicle is$74,805.

00:09:44.480 --> 00:09:49.120
Uh as tested with Destination,$79,825.

00:09:49.440 --> 00:09:50.960
So it's right at$80,000.

00:09:51.279 --> 00:09:56.639
But you can get into an F-150, you really can into it for$46,690.

00:09:57.200 --> 00:10:02.879
So if you're looking for something to compare that to, a Ram$1500 crew cab setup, it's about$45,120.

00:10:03.120 --> 00:10:08.720
Even the Toyota Tundra, which is a little higher priced, always has been,$44,235.

00:10:08.879 --> 00:10:09.120
Wow.

00:10:09.360 --> 00:10:12.639
And the GMC Sierra is at$45,995.

00:10:12.720 --> 00:10:15.919
So they're all right there together at the entry-level portion of it.

00:10:16.080 --> 00:10:19.200
And again, this is a really nice riding and driving truck.

00:10:19.360 --> 00:10:24.879
It don't let the King Ranch idea think that it's a real rough and tumble 4x4 that you're going off-roading in.

00:10:25.039 --> 00:10:25.600
It's not.

00:10:25.679 --> 00:10:28.159
It's a luxury vehicle through and through.

00:10:28.240 --> 00:10:30.720
And I really appreciate the opportunity to drive it.

00:10:30.960 --> 00:10:34.399
Let's go to the symphony on a Saturday night in the F-150.

00:10:34.639 --> 00:10:35.120
There you go.

00:10:35.360 --> 00:10:36.240
All right, thank you, sir.

00:10:36.559 --> 00:10:44.639
Time now for Thanks for being with us today.

00:10:44.720 --> 00:10:46.320
Time now for Jeff's car culture.

00:10:46.480 --> 00:10:47.679
Gas cap design.

00:10:48.000 --> 00:10:49.360
Yeah, they're different nowadays.

00:10:49.519 --> 00:10:50.159
So why?

00:10:50.320 --> 00:10:56.879
Uh well, for decades, pulling up to a gas station meant unlocking the fuel door, twisting off a cap, setting it aside, and filling up.

00:10:57.039 --> 00:11:00.240
That ritual was so standard that it became second nature.

00:11:00.399 --> 00:11:03.279
But here's a few things that we didn't know, and here's why.

00:11:03.519 --> 00:11:08.960
So one of the things, one of the biggest motivators behind the caplist fuel systems is tighter emission control.

00:11:09.440 --> 00:11:13.679
Traditional gas caps wear out, crack, or even get loose, allowing vapors to escape.

00:11:13.919 --> 00:11:18.559
These vapors not only waste fuel but also contribute to smog and air pollution.

00:11:18.799 --> 00:11:28.720
Cap list systems steal automatically every time, meeting strict environmental standards and reducing the likelihood of a check engine light to be in the evaporator emission leak.

00:11:28.960 --> 00:11:36.480
In fact, those are bad gas caps, and one of the most common causes of emissions failures for vehicles today.

00:11:36.799 --> 00:11:39.759
The next one would be it's easier for drivers.

00:11:39.840 --> 00:11:43.519
The convenience is a you know a big role in the move away from the gas caps.

00:11:43.600 --> 00:11:49.039
With no gas cap to twist, drivers can insert the pump nozzle directly into the filler neck and start fueling.

00:11:49.279 --> 00:11:56.879
This means no fiddling, no worry with the cap clicking tight enough, no risk of leaving the cap behind in the gas station, which we've all done once or twice.

00:11:57.039 --> 00:12:07.120
Uh simply it's it's simplicity is especially appealing to the drivers who dislike to dealing with that kind of stiff, dirty, frozen caps in harsh weather.

00:12:07.440 --> 00:12:15.759
Also, the modern capless systems are often tied to the car's locking system, so you can't even open the fuel door without unlocking the vehicle.

00:12:16.000 --> 00:12:18.480
The this deters casual theft or tampering.

00:12:18.559 --> 00:12:22.960
Another benefit is the capless filters are designed with nozzle-specific openings.

00:12:23.200 --> 00:12:30.960
The gas vehicle's filler neck won't accept larger diesel nozzles, and the diesel truck's filler neck are too big for the gas nozzle.

00:12:31.200 --> 00:12:36.080
These designs help prevent costly misfueling mistakes that can ruin an engine.

00:12:36.399 --> 00:12:42.960
The next one, Mike, we talked about uh, believe it or not, the humble gas tank is responsible for countless trips to the mechanics.

00:12:43.120 --> 00:12:47.519
A loose or cracked seal can cause vapor fuel leaks and trigger the check engine light.

00:12:47.679 --> 00:12:56.080
Replacing the cap usually fixes it, but owners often spend unnecessary money in diagnosing the effect before realizing it was just a gas cap.

00:12:56.320 --> 00:12:59.759
Cap list designs eliminate the weak point entirely.

00:12:59.919 --> 00:13:06.799
There's no rubber gasket to wear out, and the system seals more consistently than any human can twist.

00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:08.320
And there's another reason.

00:13:08.480 --> 00:13:17.279
If you're ever unscrewed a grimy old gas cap, got dirt and fuel and rusty flakes on your hands, you appreciate the cleanliness of a capless design.

00:13:17.519 --> 00:13:27.759
Because the sea the flap seals uh tightly, it keeps out the dust, debris, road grime that also reduces the chance of contaminants getting into the fuel system itself.

00:13:27.919 --> 00:13:35.360
No drivers have to worry about setting a dirty cap on the trunk or dropping it on the ground and obviously driving off with it.

00:13:35.519 --> 00:13:45.039
And then you got Ford, who was one of the first major automakers to roll out a capless uh capless fuel filter widely, introducing its easy fuel system in the mid-2000s.

00:13:45.279 --> 00:13:50.559
GM quickly followed, adding capless designs to the models like the Chevrolet Malibu and the Cadillac CTS.

00:13:50.720 --> 00:13:54.399
Chrysler also adapted them in the Dodge and Jeep lineups.

00:13:54.559 --> 00:13:59.279
Today, capless filters are common across the wide range of brands, though not universal.

00:13:59.679 --> 00:14:06.879
Many economy cars and imports still use traditional caps, partly to cut the cost and partly because some drivers still expect them.

00:14:07.039 --> 00:14:14.559
And then you've got the capless fuel filler, uses a spring-loaded metal flap and multiple seals within the filler neck.

00:14:14.799 --> 00:14:17.679
When the fuel nozzle is inserted, it pushes the flap open.

00:14:17.840 --> 00:14:23.600
Once the fueling is complete, the nozzle is removed and the cap snaps shut, creating an airtight seal.

00:14:23.840 --> 00:14:28.639
Most systems include a secondary door deeper inside the neck to prevent fuel siphoning or tampering.

00:14:29.440 --> 00:14:34.879
This setup is surprisingly robust, designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle without any maintenance.

00:14:35.200 --> 00:14:36.799
And just a couple more things.

00:14:37.279 --> 00:14:40.559
Reactions to the cap list uh systems have been mixed.

00:14:40.720 --> 00:14:44.320
Many drivers love the convenience, noting that it's faster and cleaner.

00:14:44.480 --> 00:14:49.440
Fleet owners appreciate it that there's fewer emission-related check engine lights caused by loose caps.

00:14:49.600 --> 00:14:53.759
However, some drivers dislike the lack of a physical cap, saying it feels less secure.

00:14:53.919 --> 00:14:58.720
A few complaints in certain older worn pump nozzles don't always see properly.

00:14:58.960 --> 00:15:01.759
Occasionally lead to the premature shutoffs during fueling.

00:15:01.919 --> 00:15:03.679
Oh, we have a premature shutoff.

00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:04.480
There you go.

00:15:04.720 --> 00:15:07.039
Uh there's there's a psychological element.

00:15:07.519 --> 00:15:08.960
We worry about premature something.

00:15:09.200 --> 00:15:13.440
Oh, there's a psychological element to the disappearance of gas caps for generations.

00:15:13.600 --> 00:15:16.799
The twisting motion was a reassurance that the tank was sealed.

00:15:16.960 --> 00:15:22.960
Without it, some drivers feel uneasy, even though the engineering behind the capless systems went more secure.

00:15:23.200 --> 00:15:32.240
So if you don't if you have a newer vehicle that's got the cap the capless, underneath your spare tire, in your spare tire area, there is an extension.

00:15:32.399 --> 00:15:41.200
So that if you have to put gas from a tank or a small container into the vehicle, there's a nozzle that you stick down in there and you can put it in there.

00:15:41.279 --> 00:15:42.320
So it's like an adapter.

00:15:42.480 --> 00:15:42.879
I have one.

00:15:42.960 --> 00:15:44.320
I checked my car out, I've got it.

00:15:44.399 --> 00:15:45.360
It's still in a little package.

00:15:45.679 --> 00:15:47.679
Because you're you're you're such a mover in shake.

00:15:47.919 --> 00:15:50.000
I've got a Buick, and there's nothing like it.

00:15:50.240 --> 00:15:52.080
Well, um, thank you very much for that.

00:15:52.320 --> 00:15:53.200
And we're going to move.

00:16:00.080 --> 00:16:00.480
All right.

00:16:00.639 --> 00:16:02.399
Time now for this hour's car review.

00:16:02.559 --> 00:16:06.480
I had a chance to drive the 2026 Ram 1500.

00:16:06.639 --> 00:16:21.200
Available trim levels include the Tradesman, Express, Bighorn, Lone Star, Warlock, Laramie, Rebel, Limited, Longhorn, RHO, and Tungsten.

00:16:22.399 --> 00:16:23.200
All of that.

00:16:23.360 --> 00:16:26.320
I had the Longhorn Crew 4x4.

00:16:26.639 --> 00:16:30.559
This is a standard or full-size body-on-frame pickup truck.

00:16:31.039 --> 00:16:32.480
Seats five people.

00:16:32.799 --> 00:16:35.440
Uh complete redesign happened in 2019.

00:16:35.519 --> 00:16:37.679
You're thinking, well, this is 2026, isn't it?

00:16:37.840 --> 00:16:38.159
Time?

00:16:38.399 --> 00:16:43.120
Listen, they wouldn't be able to compete if they didn't update that thing every couple of years.

00:16:43.279 --> 00:16:46.320
So the complete redesign happened in 2019.

00:16:46.799 --> 00:16:49.360
The updates happened all the time.

00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:50.559
Exterior features.

00:16:50.799 --> 00:16:53.440
Best looking exterior on the market.

00:16:53.840 --> 00:16:56.799
Grill styles varying depending on trend.

00:16:57.759 --> 00:17:03.120
Distinctive rear lighting with dual exhaust tips back there.

00:17:03.279 --> 00:17:09.599
Multifunction optional tailgate is a head-up competitor to Ford's.

00:17:09.920 --> 00:17:13.680
Engine size badging is on the hood, and it is big.

00:17:13.839 --> 00:17:17.680
You'll know just by looking at the hood what's under the hood.

00:17:17.920 --> 00:17:20.880
What I like, sheet metal appeals to me.

00:17:21.440 --> 00:17:22.640
What could use improvement?

00:17:22.799 --> 00:17:29.839
The side mirrors, side view mirrors are so big, it obscures the view around them.

00:17:30.160 --> 00:17:39.119
There's gotta be a you know what Ford did was they did some lowering of the actual side window glass and moved the mirrors down.

00:17:39.440 --> 00:17:42.079
And uh I think that's what Graham needs to look at.

00:17:42.480 --> 00:17:47.759
Anyway, interior highlights, it's got a three-screen dashboard, it's awesome.

00:17:48.160 --> 00:17:57.359
Uh instrument cluster, infotainment, and the shotgun person sitting over there in the passenger seat, they've got their own screen right there in the dashboard.

00:17:57.920 --> 00:17:58.720
It's very cool.

00:17:59.440 --> 00:18:00.960
You can't see it as a driver.

00:18:01.279 --> 00:18:05.039
They've got it somehow shaded that you can't see what's going on over there.

00:18:05.200 --> 00:18:08.720
So you can pull up, I guess, porn if you want to watch that over there.

00:18:09.279 --> 00:18:12.720
Um by the way, that one has its own controls.

00:18:12.960 --> 00:18:17.359
Um infotainment, excellent, easy to use.

00:18:17.680 --> 00:18:25.279
Uh sliding shelf inside the center console uh is uh really handy.

00:18:25.599 --> 00:18:32.000
And you slide that shelf back, you know, you've got your remote control, your phone, whatever is in you want in there.

00:18:32.160 --> 00:18:38.079
You slide that back, and then you then you've got a race car that's just fired up back behind us here.

00:18:38.559 --> 00:18:40.240
That's the Supercomp dragster.

00:18:40.720 --> 00:18:46.720
Uh comfortable seating, uh all the adjustments on the thing.

00:18:47.519 --> 00:18:55.519
Uh it's a truck, multi-function bed, tie-downs, lighting, everything back there, and this particular model, what I liked.

00:18:55.759 --> 00:18:57.839
Uh Ram thought of everything on this.

00:18:57.920 --> 00:19:00.000
I don't are they gonna make a loop through the parking lot?

00:19:00.319 --> 00:19:01.519
Maybe that's what they should do.

00:19:01.839 --> 00:19:03.359
What could use improvement?

00:19:03.680 --> 00:19:05.839
Upper trims are expensive.

00:19:06.160 --> 00:19:14.400
But I mean, you know, if you're gonna do that, then buy a trim level as opposed to one offing it.

00:19:15.759 --> 00:19:22.400
Engine, it's the return of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with a mild hybrid now.

00:19:22.559 --> 00:19:31.279
Turns out 395 horsepower, 410 pound feet of torque, through an eight-speed automatic transmission that's smooth as glass.

00:19:31.599 --> 00:19:34.480
Till rating, 9,240 pounds.

00:19:34.640 --> 00:19:36.960
It'll haul 1,330 pounds.

00:19:37.200 --> 00:19:41.920
Get 16 miles per gallon in the city, 20 on the highway for combined of 18.

00:19:42.079 --> 00:19:45.680
It was a time not that long ago that it only got 13 miles per gallon.

00:19:45.839 --> 00:19:46.160
That's right.

00:19:46.319 --> 00:19:47.680
So this new setup really works.

00:19:47.759 --> 00:19:52.079
I got 16.2 miles per gallon over 379 miles.

00:19:52.240 --> 00:19:57.839
What I liked about it, that smooth V8 power with the mild hybrid.

00:19:58.079 --> 00:19:59.279
You cannot beat it.

00:19:59.359 --> 00:20:02.240
I'm telling you, those V8 engines rock.

00:20:02.720 --> 00:20:08.480
And I I drive all of the four cylinders, it doesn't make any difference what it is, turbocharged.

00:20:08.559 --> 00:20:11.759
I don't care that V8, it rocks in that pickup truck.

00:20:11.920 --> 00:20:14.000
It's just that low-end port from that V8.

00:20:14.319 --> 00:20:24.880
It's also got available an optional Hurricane 6 high output engine, straight six in it, 540 horsepower from that straight six.

00:20:28.400 --> 00:20:32.799
I love the coil suspension, it acts like a Luxo limo.

00:20:33.279 --> 00:20:36.240
Wow, like you'd use improvement in the ride and handling nothing.

00:20:36.480 --> 00:20:38.400
This thing is just absolutely awesome.

00:20:38.640 --> 00:20:42.960
Base trim price, base trim price on this.

00:20:43.200 --> 00:20:51.839
Remember what that I what I was driving, and that was the Longhorn Crew Cab 4x4.

00:20:52.400 --> 00:20:55.200
Base trim price$75,405.

00:20:56.240 --> 00:21:00.559
Prices tested with some options,$86,205.

00:21:01.119 --> 00:21:01.839
Oh man.

00:21:02.640 --> 00:21:09.119
The base model price of this is$44,775.

00:21:09.680 --> 00:21:12.559
But here are the the other, they're all right there with it.

00:21:12.720 --> 00:21:17.359
Ford F-150,$43,935.

00:21:17.759 --> 00:21:19.119
That's the starting price.

00:21:19.359 --> 00:21:22.960
Starting price for the Chevy Silverado,$42,600.

00:21:23.680 --> 00:21:28.160
And the Toyota Tundra starts at$41,260.

00:21:29.039 --> 00:21:31.039
For a pickup truck.

00:21:31.440 --> 00:21:32.000
Yep, yep.

00:21:32.160 --> 00:21:33.279
You kidding me?

00:21:33.440 --> 00:21:34.960
It's a pickup truck.

00:21:35.119 --> 00:21:38.480
I go back to the days of what a pickup truck was just that.

00:21:38.720 --> 00:21:40.160
Bare bones pickup truck.

00:21:40.480 --> 00:21:43.839
You bought it to work with rubber rubber floor mats, all that.

00:21:44.240 --> 00:21:44.799
Yeah.

00:21:48.160 --> 00:21:51.920
We're just we're just gonna open the microphones and listen to this for a while.

00:21:52.960 --> 00:21:54.960
So it's a race car that's right behind us there.

00:21:56.079 --> 00:21:56.720
Yeah.

00:21:57.759 --> 00:22:01.920
That ram doesn't sound that loud, but it's They have quite that noise.

00:22:02.240 --> 00:22:03.519
It's got more creature comforts in it.

00:22:03.759 --> 00:22:07.359
Next week I'm gonna review the Chevy Equinox EV.

00:22:07.680 --> 00:22:09.519
And I know you'll want to tune in for that.

00:22:09.839 --> 00:22:10.079
Okay.

00:22:10.400 --> 00:22:11.680
You know how I am about EVs.

00:22:11.920 --> 00:22:13.119
Not a hybrid, but a full EV.

00:22:13.519 --> 00:22:14.160
A full E V.

00:22:14.480 --> 00:22:15.039
Yeehaw.

00:22:15.200 --> 00:22:15.759
Well
