They are like surgeons and I . I know that you can relate to that . What I just said and I thought I hope that all the other firefighters do too because all their calendars . Well , no , no , that would be . David has their calendars .

We responded to an issue at a senior citizen living place . No , and we were walking down the hall leaving and some several distinguished ladies and I'll say this , I'm 70 and they were older than me . And so the lady says very , oh , fireman , you know , and was any of you guys in the calendar ? And my captain says Jack was now . Do I look like a calendar person ? Well , I take up to . I take up two months . I was gonna say three months , yeah , but she's the page for the bottom part .

And she reached up and she paints me on the cheek , uh huh , which she kissed me on the other cheek , okay , and she smeared lipstick from my nose to my ear , uh huh . Well , our district chief showed up and he says what is on your face ? And I'm going . I didn't have a clue what he's talking about and I put my fingers up there and fight and fire , sir . And you know , there was this big old blob of red lipstick and I don't know how women get it off at night Carefully .

We're all gonna be in trouble . But I had lipstick on my face , but the other problem is is where she keeps me . On the other cheek bruised it and I had a bruise about the size of a softball how did you ? Explain that to your wife . It wasn't easy .

So you got a hickey and lipstick on your face . Yeah , and I'd only been married two years at the time , and he might have had glitter on him from the strip club too , but you were in a calendar for six months .

Man , this can't . Can't catch your break today . But I will say this about the Houston Fire Department the best guys that I ever worked with , dedicated to their position . You know , you gotta admit that these guys go to work every day .

They go to work , they do what they do and the people that they respond . They don't even know who these people are . You know , when I first got in the fire department , my uncle told me he says he thought I was crazy . He said you're gonna run into a burning building , other people are running out and that crap don't belong to you . And I thought that's true , there's something about that , but it's a , it's a . It's a profession that I'm very proud to say .

I will tell you that I fly over minimal fires . I find over fires that you're thinking I know big deal and somebody's dead inside . You don't know what you're gonna roll up to . Yeah , and I and I , whenever I'm on the air , I always say you know , we had several fires here recently , yeah , where the two alarm , three alarm was not so much the fire and I always explained to look , these guys have got bunker gear on you , put on one of those jackets . How much that jacket ?

way . Well , I can't tell you the jacket itself , but I know that when I weighed one time with my gear on boots , pants , hundred pounds more . I had , I gained a hundred and eleven pounds . There you go with air pack mask . Yeah , I gained a hundred eleven pounds . You know , if it's a hundred and nine degrees outside the heat , inch 120 . It kicks a young man's butt .

Absolutely , and I always make sure that I always try to explain that in a way that everybody can relate to . Yeah , in the fact that you guys are going in there and 30 minutes . Imagine yourself going outside in the yard and you're gonna mow the grass in 108 degree temperatures and you've got to have your winter coat on along with another 50 pounds of stuff . Yeah , and you're gonna you think you're gonna last 30 minutes . It's not gonna last five minutes .

It's not stuff , it's safety gear that you survive what you're going in , that's true .

But but so they pull another alarm because they need to relieve those guys . And it's not necessarily about the equipment , sometimes it is rotating the fire .

Well , yeah and the thing about firefighters is , you learn , is , and it's a motto that I even carry on , even though I've been retired ten years I don't quit when I'm tired , I quit when I'm finished .

You know and that was gonna ask a question when you retire said ten years ago , so you didn't experience any of the EV fires or anything like that on the road .

No , that was before your time . No , but I did make a Volkswagen one time . They scared the poo out of me when that magnesium got hit with the water . Oh , magnesium wheels , yeah , oh , yeah I was burning and it looked like rockets , red glare like oh , what did I get myself ?

All right , the you know Well . First of all , let's talk it . What kind of car , is it ? I have a 66 Nova that I did a frame off restoration in 2016 and 2017 . It's got an LS motor in with a 4L 60 a height front end under it with Mustang 2 rack and pinion steering and it wins awards throughout .

It wins awards and then somebody ran into it .

So yeah , somebody ran into it with me driving . I hit a deer two years ago and you guys witnessed it today . It was at loopy tortillas . The people who rebuilt it did a fantastic job . You can't even tell it . When we painted it originally in 2017 , the paint job was 28,000 bucks . Who did the paint ? Mac sweet rides in Magnolia , mark Ryan , we know we know our mark in my car .

I love great guy you know , and so mark Magnolia is a fantastic you know market , sweet rides and Magnolia just a great guy . Yeah , we rebuilt it , had no problem with my insurance paper on what it needed to fix because they knew who mark was , and so it turned out very , very well and I'm pleased . And speaking of awards and why you say a travel everywhere , the first event I ever took this car to was in Louisville , kentucky , at the National Street Rod event 10,000 plus cars there and they divided up all those cars into quadrants . And so Texas , new Mexico , oklahoma , arkansas , louisiana is the south central District , and they picked one car out of that , all those cars that were from that area , and the Nova brought home the award . Oh , wow . And I mean I was pumped because you guys know the riddler cars were there over a million .

Yeah , sir , I said I will never win a real reward , but to me the award that I won , that that weekend at the NSRA my wife was there with me and To be part of it . I've got a wonderful wife , but she don't do car shows . Here we are , october coming up . She's been to one all year long and and so . But actually we're going back to Oklahoma City in three weeks to the Southwest nationals .

And you know cars , which made me feel good that I they thought I knew cars , they blew them in there I'm drumming .

And so I started off my phone file sending pictures to the guy and All of a sudden the assistant director calls is no more pictures , we want that orange car with the fire on it . That'd be mine and I'm going orange car with the fire . I mean , Tesla you know .

So yeah , but I said so . I said I said anyone's this one . He says , yeah , we want it , and the movie is called finding solace . It's a bad guy . It's the kind of like the Eric Clapton movie I shot , the sheriff where you have the bad guy on the show yeah , don't get along . And the bad guy is Driving a badass car and they picked my Nova for it . So I really feel happy that I'm part of it and so he's gonna come and see you .

We just had a great time met some and you're in the movie and I'm in the movie is an extra because it's Guys been shot and killed in the alley and they want somebody to be extra , to stand around like look at the bodies , like Not that I've never seen in a dead body . So I'm standing behind the barrier tape with the Columbus police officer and we're kind of looking and talking and so not only is fireman Jack you know Fireman and fireman Jack with now he's a movie star now I'm a movie star , you need hero cards .
