He started off with bugs , Volkswagen bugs , and then , when he did well , he went and bought himself an older Porsche , all covered up in the garage . He drives it every now and then he says I just absolutely love that thing , it's an air-cooled version . I don't know what it is , but it looks good . Silver .

Well , I had the base model to start with , and then , wanted to upgrade . Couldn't quite swing the GT3 or the Turbo S , so I went to the GTS .

Our very first one we accidentally got for our 40th wedding anniversary . Accidentally Well well , we just went to dealership to look around and drove one home , uh-huh and we thought what ? The heck yeah . And then we fell in love with it of course and then we moved on and moved up and hope to move up again well , you know it's funny .

Uh , I've always admired porsches a distance . I could never afford one . I borrowed one from a friend of mine years and years and years ago and it was the one that really didn't look like a Porsche . It had that chopped-off back window and I don't know what model it was , but it was a rear-engine air-cooled Porsche . That thing handled like nothing that I have ever driven before that or after that . There's something special about that car . It's all about the handling . Add more power to it and they know how to do that . I can only imagine that thing . Have you ever tracked the car at all ?

Scca connection with a friend of ours down at Richard Tomlin down at Apex Auto Works and he's an official actually with SCCA and he does a lot of well actually all over the United States . But his track is down there at Angleton . You ever been down there ?

Yeah , we've been down there , that's where we rode , we've ridden with people down there .

Yeah , well , all I can think of is that I flashback . I'm a Corvette guy . I flashback to a couple of years ago and had the opportunity to take the car on Circuit of the Americas . It was a Corvette deal , so there was lots of Corvettes and we all had to get on the .

They set us out I don't know , a dozen at a time , right , but you know you got the horsepower . There at your right foot there's some guys that go a little faster than they asked you to go and so there would be gaps and you could kind of get on it and go around the corners and stuff like that . And I'll tell you what . It sure was fun . I'm very careful I don't tear up my car or anything like that , but it sure was fun to put it to the max , run it up to the red line a couple of times and that sort of stuff , because I'd never done that before and it was fun . And you obviously have some experience not driving , but I will encourage you to if you ever get the opportunity and they have those events out there where you can take your car out there and drive it .

Yeah , we have a friend that's an instructor down there oh very good and he takes us out every once in a while . So you've got the connection down there and he takes us out . So you've got the connection .

We do . And what he didn't tell you is once we got that Porsche , it was time for me to get a car and I said , oh no , it's got to be a Porsche . So we ended up with a 2015 Macan .

No , there was a time this is several years ago and I don't know how all that worked , but do they still have ? Do you know ? A deal with the Mercedes dealership , some Mercedes dealership . They had Mercedes cars there and one of the instructors took me out in a Mercedes on that course to show me the lines going into the corners and coming out of the corners and all that sort of stuff , and it was truly fascinating that if you're a fairly decent learner , you can increase your times pretty quickly once you get the hang of it , and it's tons of fun .

I think we got time . We got time , time , time . Just do it On my side , do it this week in auto history the new Ford Mustang or Probe . It was actually going to be called the Mustang until Ford . Somebody got the idea that that wouldn't be too good after the buying public said no , we don't like it , don't like it . So they ended up making it the Ford Probe . Now it came with a 2.2 liter Mazda four-cylinder engine and when it first debuted it came with a 2.2 liter Mazda four-cylinder engine and when it first debuted it was real high demand . It was a really popular car for a while . Some people were actually paid higher than MSRP for this vehicle early on . But the last Probe rolled off the assembly line in June 20 , 1997 . Then also this week , may 13 , 1986 , the Jeep Wrangler goes on sale . Now it may sound kind of strange , but prior to Chrysler buying the Jeep from AMC in 1987 , it was a Jeep but it was called a YJCJ .

They had a lot of different names for it , but it was not called a Wrangler until Chrysler bought it and then produced it out and renamed it with the Wrangler I'll be darned . So they've sold more than 100,000 Wranglers per year since 2011 and more than 200,000 since 2018 . A year vehicles sold . Majority of those are now four doors . I think it's almost 75 percent now . Also this week , subaru introduces the 1000 . Now . This is important because it's tiny rear engine 360 for a decade is what they sold , but they wanted to compete with corolla , nissan , mazda and others . Tech Force Foundation is soliciting feedback from new technicians in high school and post-secondary students enrolled in automotive training programs for its inaugural Tech's Talk survey . Nonprofit Foundation , which works with students and professional technicians as they further their careers , wants to glean I like that word glean the insights and perspectives from aspiring technician students and working technicians in their first two years of employment . Interesting Foundation said there are currently three technician openings for every tech school or community college graduate . Wow , part of the problem is young techs quit after a short time on the job . Survey is open to all young technicians in the automotive , aviation , collision , diesel restoration , welding and other related programs . Results will be shared publicly . Okay , ford Motor Company has issued a call to action to suppliers asking for help reducing costs on electric vehicle production , where the automaker is bleeding billions of dollars . The memo offers a look into how heavily Ford is leaning on suppliers to help with EVs . It comes even as many of those suppliers grapple with dramatically lower volumes and production delays by Ford and other customers . The EV business has been an enormous money loser for Ford , which anticipates its Model E unit will rack up $5.5 billion in losses this year . The automaker's competitors , especially General Motors , have poured massive investments into EVs in the battle against Tesla and fast-rising Chinese automakers . They had some serious duty over there .

Nhtsa said it received 22 reports of incidents where vehicles equipped with Waymo's fifth-generation autonomous driving systems were either involved in crashes with stationary or semi-stationary objects , collided with parked cars or generally violated traffic safety laws . Initial evaluation confirmed Waymo's autonomous driving system was either engaged during each incident or disengaged moments before the incident , according to NHTSA .
