Speaker 2I'm so happy , though I .
Speaker 1Bet you are , you always are when you're on yourself free Britain . So I had somebody asked me in this week what does Mars do ? He , he keeps he's the booker .
Speaker 2He keeps this into the table level .
Speaker 3That's it , that's right . He's , he's the , he's the red of our red , white and blue .
Speaker 4That's what you Yankee doodle yeah oh , just a small update for friends of ours is a at NHRA stock eliminator , speedy Emmons is qualified 11th and Jerry Emmons is qualified 12th . Stan Holt in Superstock is qualified Third and Dale Holquist , our other friend , is qualified fourth .
Speaker 2Oh my god , where's the ?
Speaker 1chicken we're getting a .
Speaker 4Wally .
Speaker 1We're getting a while Where's the chick with the stick .
Speaker 4I'm looking , I haven't seen who stands ?
Speaker 3wife , that's yeah , she doesn't know .
Speaker 4Yeah , and then Harvey Emmons is qualified 30th . Gary is 33rd super stock .
Speaker 3We're gonna put the Wally , right up here somewhere .
Speaker 1We get it because we've been promised a wall .
Speaker 3Yeah , yeah , yeah , he wins when he's gonna give us a wall . I got a neighbor named Wally . We could bring him in . Is the guy's name really wall . Yeah , he's a brother of Ezekiel , is it ?
Speaker 1He's brother oh my god , we've got a new pilot . His last name is Ward . His last name is Ward . I said Do you know Ward Cleaver ? He said who ?
Speaker 3He's that young , yeah , everybody this is a bit of trivia . Whitney 127 , 86 . That's their phone number . That was allegedly there . The cleaver phone number , was it ?
Speaker 1How would you know ?
Speaker 3that because it's some trivia thing that it's stuck in my head because he watches me TV all the time .
Speaker 1Yeah , I do too . Actually , the Andy Griffith show it's on my agenda as soon as I get home . I have to cat he hates it because I'm always watching Perry Mason . I know , yeah , you said that I've I've not gotten into Perry Mason , nor have I got into the other Andy Griffith show , our FD very . Rf no , the .
Speaker 5Where is the atary Matlock ?
Speaker 1Yeah , all right . You know Hemmings publishes their sold cars roundup once a week and and Emmings marketplace it's called people can put their car on there to sell their car . Some of them are just regular everyday drivers . Most of these are Collector cars , if you want to call it that . You know there's some customs on here , but very few , and so I pick out what I think is something fun for us to look at so is this for us , who comes closest without going over , oh , you get a score sheet .
Speaker 3We're gonna .
Speaker 1We're gonna start scoring . Okay , I like it .
Speaker 3Yeah , let's do that . You hadn't scored since the 70s .
Speaker 4I scored twice in the in the 80s because I have two kids .
Speaker 1There you go . All right , so our first car up is for Jeff . Oh , and that would be a Cadillac . Yeah , this is a 1973 , and so , whatever it is , it doesn't make any difference , it's humongous . 1973 Cadillac El Dorado .
Speaker 3Tabal , my god .
Speaker 1It's a red on red convertible . It's done . It doesn't say that okay it it's stunningly beautiful . Of course , it may be full of rust , we don't know that . Those details okay , I'll show you the picture in just a second . So what is your guess of the price of this car ? It looks good . Let's start with Mike 22,000 Mars is a good convertible . Okay .
Speaker 4I'm gonna say 28 , 28 , 17 17 .
Speaker 1Really Well , all of you are wrong , but close . Not , you're not close . No , it went for $26,250 .
Speaker 4Mars wins because he didn't go over . He didn't go over , oh yeah so you didn't want to do the Corvair pickup truck .
Speaker 1No , I don't . I don't know that maybe I shouldn't be that with a v8 . I Shouldn't be giving that all right next up a 1963 Chevrolet Impala .
Speaker 3Convertible 63 impala rag top .
Speaker 4Highly desirable car .
Speaker 1Yes , so keep that in mind when you guess the price 46 30 35 .
Speaker 2Mars 25 .
Speaker 1Well , the sold price of the 1963 Chevrolet Impala on Hemmings Marketplace was $53,550 .
Speaker 4Wow , holy moly , that's a lot of dough , it is For a car that probably cost about two grand when it was new . Well , and it's not , did they never hit ?
Speaker 2Did they say it was an Impala SS or ?
Speaker 1anything like that .
Speaker 2No .
Speaker 3I don't know those details . You could probably get that if you clicked on it and drilled down . You probably know that .
Speaker 1Yeah , but yeah , that's not the purpose of this . This is a general overview . Okay , so I had to put a classic in here . Okay , a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air . White walls , black exterior , red interior .
Speaker 4And Bel Air was top of the line in 57 . Yes .
Speaker 1Yep , so let's start with Mr Mars . That would be your guess on something like that . It looks good .
Speaker 2That's all I can tell you . Yeah , but those things that you look at , it's stupid money . I'm going to say 50 .
Speaker 1Pull that microphone closer there , Mr Non Radio .
Speaker 2I'm going to say 50 .
Speaker 150 .
Speaker 4I'll say 55 . 32 .
Speaker 1$43,050 . Yeah .
Speaker 4Well , give that to Jeff , because he didn't go over .
Speaker 3Yeah , but you put the boat there like a dime a dozen now .
Speaker 2Yeah , but when they're original , like that , that's nostalgia , that's somebody's .
Speaker 3Oh .
Speaker 2I had a memory whenever I did this .
Speaker 3But when you sell it , who's going to keep that memory ? They're going to tub it out , unless it .
Speaker 2You don't buy that kind of car for that .
Speaker 3Well , you might , yeah .
Speaker 2No , you buy that because that's where you . What condition ?
Speaker 3is it ? Is it got rock or rust ? All that you don't know .
Speaker 4No , no , this one here is big , this is Cherry .
Speaker 1It's not an original , it's been Tweaked . No , it hasn't been tweaked , it's restored to an original look . Let me put it that way . We don't know if it's got an LS in it , but oh , we left that out we didn't know , I don't know any of that . Why would you do that to a 57 car ? That's all it looks stock .
Speaker 2I mean either you put it , I would never Cherry factory , or you rest a mod at me , done with it .
Speaker 3I would know . I know Either way it could go on Hot Rod Tour of Texas .
Speaker 1Either way . Yes , it could . Oh , yeah , yeah , yeah . All right For you pickup lovers , the 1994 Chevrolet 1500 . It's a two-tone because they had that different color down along the rocker panel . It looks like it's got a custom grille in it . It's got updated headlights on it . It looks to me like it's either a crew cab or an extended cab . It's not a single cab . So 1994 Chevy 1500 , it's clean , looks like it's got Corvette wheels on it or something . But it's not overdone , it's not crazy , it's nothing like that . It looks like a stock pickup truck with those old stock mirrors on it . Very clean , okay , it's 94 Chevy 1500 . How much ? I'll say 50 . 50 .
Speaker 2Mars Say 15 .
Speaker 1Okay , Eight grand 17850 is what it sold for 17850 . Which ?
Speaker 2They're very popular , but that's a little bit earlier in those square bodies , yeah .
Speaker 1It's 1994 .
Speaker 3Yeah , it's just coming out of that you don't see a lot of car shows .
Speaker 1This is for Conrad . Not that you could fit in it None of us could , I don't think . A 1987 Fiat X19 . Oh gosh , and it looks like it's in process of being restored . So my guess is so it is on a tow truck ? No , no , but it's close . It's on drive up ramps . Ah , all right , it's red in color , it's got tires and wheels on it , but it prob . I don't know it may or may not .
Speaker 4Tires and wheels doubles the price .
Speaker 1Well , it may not have a motor in it , based on the price . So there's a hint as for the sold price on this Fiat X19 . And it's actually on himmings , yes , it's on himmings . Sold car Times must be getting hard .
Speaker 2I'll say 2000 . Nah , I'm going to say 5 .
Speaker 35000 . I'm tossed , I'm going to . I'm 3,300 .
Speaker 11,900 .
Speaker 3See , he threw that one in there .
Speaker 4Yeah , yeah , I'm finally got one , he finally got one that's on himmings Now to me , this would be highly desirable to me .
Speaker 169 Camaro Nope , but it's not that far off . This is a 1964 Chevrolet El Camino . No , very much , like Randy showed us on Correct . Well , no , it's maybe the same body style but it's like what ?
Speaker 5he's got .
Speaker 1It's a driver , it's clean , it's one color , it's that you know .
Speaker 5Sky-missed blue or whatever it is yeah , aqua , yeah .
Speaker 1What year . 1964 , el Camino . First year I'll say 12 .
Speaker 4I'm going to go 18 .
Speaker 3I'm going to go 10 . I'm going to go 18 . I'm going to go 10 .
Speaker 1Mars $19,950 . He's into that old stuff . You know what .
Speaker 2It's an emotional buy at that point , it's not . It's like ooh , that's cool . No , it's like you can see one of your kids in that , Something like that . You know it's always something like that . Or you had one at one time , yeah , or I wish I'd have had that , because Joe Blow had one in high school and it was see if that , based on the price , I'm not sure about what condition it's in , but it's not that it's not that .
Speaker 1Just trying to see what condition .
Speaker 2my condition was in it's a very square body like the one that Randy had . It's got a little more style to it because they upgraded it , but it's pretty plain 64 El Camino for $19,950 .
Speaker 1See , I'm still a pretty desirable because I'm having these pangs about getting rid of the Corvette . You're getting rid of the Corvette I said , I have the pangs P-A-N-G apostrophe S . I have drugs for that . Now you know that . So I'm thinking , you know , I would really , really like to have cash , something along that line , and cash and I don't know . It kind of speaks to me , but not totally Just saying Well , if you have one out there , send it to Don .
Speaker 3This is for you , mars , he'll road test it for you .
Speaker 1No , this is for one of your grandkids ? Okay , because you , you know , 1984 Toyota Supra , ooh .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's 84 .
Speaker 1So , it's a Mark III , it's an 84 Supra . I don't know anything about the details of it . Okay , it's black , it looks stock and with that model here it's probably got 300,000 miles on it .
Speaker 4Yeah , but it could have a thousand horsepower .
Speaker 2Yeah , I bet , I bet . And it didn't have either one . No , it doesn't . It looks it being on himmings it looks on , bring a trailer or something you might .
Speaker 1Yeah , I would don't know the rust level or all any of that sort of stuff , and that's in that era . I'll say , I'll say 28 .
Speaker 2Really yeah , I'm thinking more like 17 . 10 .
Speaker 1Jeff wins . No , actually , none of you win . What Is it sold for $4,000 ? Super cheap . Here's one this is for . Let's see , I don't know who this is for it's not going to be me , because I'm not big on that body style but a 1948 Chevrolet fleet master looks like grandpa's car , except it was painted yellow and it's got some .
Speaker 4Grandpa drove a taxi .
Speaker 1Jason's got a 50 fleet line . Oh God , this is not my cup of tea , but apparently it's a pretty nice car . Let me just leave it at that 48 Chevrolet fleet master canary yellow , two door 5500 .
Speaker 3Mars 7500 .
Speaker 29500 .
Speaker 1Well , 25,700 dollars .
Speaker 2Is it the ? I must have missed something .
Speaker 3Is it Tweety Yellow ?
Speaker 2Like it is Tweety Yellow .
Speaker 1Yes , yeah , um . Here's one for you , conrad , a 1974 72 Ford F 350 camper , you know camper , I like it $16,000 . All right , here's a high boy . Thirty two Ford Roadster , oh , thirty two Ford Roadster , uh , black , it's a convertible , obviously , and it's it looks like a full custom , except for , except for the frame .
Speaker 2Two roads Didn't say anything about the motor . No , I don't have that .
Speaker 1Don't see any blowers or anything . No , there's nothing sticking out of the hood because it's too damn tall .
Speaker 2All right Then full fenders , no fenders , no fenders . Okay , 43 .
Speaker 3I was going to go 44 .
Speaker 135 Conrad . Thirty four thousand six hundred and fifty dollars . Now that would be something that I would be interested in .
Speaker 2Road tripping . Yeah , yeah , oh , I agree A hundred percent . That's what I went 43 .
Speaker 3I need room .
Speaker 2Got much under the hood or a seat in the back , then they're up over .
Speaker 3No , I've got the car for you . No , you got it .
Speaker 2I got the car for you . Okay , Mars Need a car .
Speaker 1Okay , this is perfect , this is right up your alley . I need it . It's got wood , green paneling on the side of it , vinyl , a nineteen , ninety two Dodge Grand Caravan Hold me back , hold me back .
Speaker 2It's still in the crate . No , no , it's not in the crate . This is got the woods . Got the woods , it's got you up .
Speaker 1Yeah , ninety two Dodge Grand Caravan . Jeff , your bid seven thousand Five thousand five thousand your bid .
Speaker 2I'm going to go ten eight hundred dollars .
Speaker 4Why is it on Heming ?
Speaker 2That's a Craigslist car .
Speaker 4Oh my God , that's that's truly . Bring a trailer , because that's the only way you can get it home .
Speaker 3Well , you got to get your TR six off . It or T I , whatever that was the yacht X forty one nine , oh my God .
Speaker 1Well , that was fun .
Speaker 3Love
Discussion on Complex Car Wiring Systems
Speaker 3it .
Speaker 1All right , so we can do news , or does anybody got anything else ? You want to do the ?
Speaker 3wires and we do the wires . Let me get to the wire . Let's talk wire . Let me get to it .
Speaker 1I'll head because I will tell you there is nothing more confusing and more complicated than a wiring schematic of a car . It is the most bizarre messed up , jacked up . That would drive me totally insane . That's why Richard Tomlin at Apex Auto Works has the Corvette trying to find the drain on the battery .
Speaker 3I'm telling you . Well , I found this because I was researching how many parts in a car . I was just doing some new land around the Internet and the majority of today's vehicle faults are electrical rather than mechanical , conrad . You know that , and we don't need a thousand words to explain it . But recently this is what happened and this is what I found that Bentley has released a fascinating image of its Bentega SUV that it reveals its incredibly complex wiring harness . Just like the nerve cells and fibers that transmit crucial pulses across the human body , the harness is responsible for interconnecting the Bentley's vast electrical network . There are actually seven different networks at play in this photograph , operating at different speeds for varying uses , but all are integrated to share information as necessary .
Speaker 3Virtually all modern cars feature such electrical networks through only the related , as in an Audi Q7 , especially the advanced SQ7 variant . This is where it comes into play . Both the Bentayga and the SQ7 feature the world's first get this , conrad 48 volt electrical system , which is secondary to the main system and is commonly a 12 volt on today's cars . So it's 48 . Both the Bentayga and the SQ7 feature the world's first 40 electrical system . As we talked about , the 48 system is used for the electric , electro mechanical active roll control that gives them , in Tega and the SQ7 , variable axle speed the articulation depending on the weather and the SUV traveling on or off the road . If you're wondering why it's so complex , there are barely any features that are depending on it . Everything you have in that works off the electrical system . Beyond common driver system features such as Electrol , electronic stability control and hill descent , the Bentayga employs multiple camera systems adaptive cruise control , traffic sign recognition , birds-eye view , semi-automatic parking and infrared night vision . So all of that is an awareness and All of those different networks .
Speaker 4Multiple modules talk on a network , so it's called in the . In the car business it's called multiplexing . Or can network which is controlled is common Area network . So and all of that , those different networks all talk at different speeds , multiplexing . Gm kind of started putting in cars back in the in the late 80s , early 90s and the .
Speaker 4The way it works is you've got seven or eight modules that are talking on one wire and Each module knows the sequence when the next module is supposed to talk . So it starts with a , the next module talks be , the next module talks see , and If it gets out of sequence , that's when your check engine light starts coming on . It starts throwing codes and one of the you know , one of the biggest code fears in Technician world is a u-code , which u-code means it's a communication code error . So one of the modules either isn't speaking in their space on the multiplex or it's speaking out of turn on the multiplex and Can be extremely difficult to diagnose if you don't understand how it works and can be very expensive for Inexperienced people to repair because the first thing they do is they just start throwing modules at the car .
Speaker 2Yep right and cutting wires and reconnecting . Yeah well , you can't cut wires anymore .
Speaker 4I'm gonna mess it up .
Speaker 3That's why it was fascinating to look , as I think it looked like a circulatory system .
Speaker 6And that's right , yeah , exactly , and the 48 volts .
Speaker 3Now today's modern vehicles be a car issue , be a truck have over a mile of wire in their vehicle . Oh man , in 1948 I think they said it was like 110 feet of wire in a vehicle back then . So anywhere from three modules to now Infinity .
Speaker 1Well they've been talking about going to a different voltage in the system . Yes , because of all the years because there's too much To operate with just a 12 volt system and it's no longer a single battery system .
Speaker 3There's always sitting in the modern cars . Now some of them have two batteries .
Speaker 4And many of the modules will start setting codes if the battery voltage goes low . Because of the battery voltage goes low , things stop working . So then they get out of sequence on these multiplex in other words , it's all jacked up .
Speaker 3Relates to what you're good experiencing with the Corvette . Yes , yeah , yeah , a seat switch .
Speaker 1Oh , you keep pointing at your computer because we have somebody on there .
Speaker 2Well , that's because the guest is here .
Speaker 1Well , I know , are they scheduled to be here right now ? Yes , they are . Yeah , oh , all right , well , On time , okay , gina . Hello guys how are you Gina ?
Speaker 6I'm here . How are you ?
Speaker 1Well , we're here , so it's . It's good to see you again . I haven't spoken with you in quite some time . We're Facebook friends , so I keep up with her through Facebook , but that's about it . So tell me what's going on .
Speaker 6Oh , Same old stuff a little bit of racing , a little bit of working .
Speaker 1Yeah , mr Mars , can you help ?
Speaker 2me here . Well , so so Gina is has got a new endeavor , okay , and and so she's going to give us a quick look at what she's got going on , because they're now advertising with us , yep .
Speaker 6Yes , sir , of course , and this is a place to advertise .
Speaker 2Yes .
Speaker 6That's for sure .
Speaker 2Absolutely so . Tell us a little bit about what you got going on , gina .
Speaker 6I Am working with and for Rogers Dabs Chevrolet . They're out of Brandon Mississippi . It's a small dealership with a Huge parts department . They're the number two powertrain dealer in the US .
Speaker 6Wow and what . What they hired me to do is to kind of grow their performance side . They just , you know , got the performance side about two years ago and they came to me when I was running mobile and Wanted to sponsor the racetrack and wanted to put up a sign to sell engines . And I said you're gonna have to do a lot more than that to sell engines to race car drivers . And I told them I'd help them with that . And when I left mobile they called me up and said hey , we want you to do the same thing . And here I am . So I basically sell any GM parts engines , transmissions , anything , gm OEM parts , everything but my focus is on Performance . I can sell it all , but I really build relationships with the racetracks , advertise with them . I go to drivers meetings and meet the racers and tell them about our engine program .
Speaker 1Well , you know , it's funny because back when I worked at the Chevrolet dealership here in town , richardson , which is not business anymore that we had a catalog called GM performance catalog and it was like the Bible For everybody that was in the streets and I assume that they've got some form of that .
Speaker 4Oh , yeah , yeah , well , you know , and it's . It's crate engines , crate transmissions , right , the combination of engine transmissions , control modules that you can buy anywhere from a 300 horsepower package on up to a thousand horsepower package and a ten speed transmission . So it kind of Goes the full range of what you want for a street car .
Speaker 4You know , yeah , jeff talks about tub it out and put an LS in it . This is where you'd go to buy your LS , because you could buy the transmission , the engine and these , the engine control module , all together , all designed to work together and basically bolted in . Another thing GM performance does is they actually sell a Spec engine to certain race categories , certain race series . They're required to buy that spec engines , a sealed engine from General Motors to run it correct , and Roger dabs would be a location they can go get it through as well .
Speaker 6That is correct and I'm a firm believer in the crate motor program . Now , I know there's certain classes that I believe as a racer . There's certain classes where you should have open an open engine and you should like a modified that's why they're called modified . But there are also classes that a crate motor benefits because of the cost . When you have a field of 15 racers and let's say , three of them have a beefed up engine which is a straight crate that they send off and have additional horsepower found in it , so you have a guy up the three guys running $50,000 engines and you've got fifth . You know the other . But Well , guys running you know a $6,000 engine halfway through the season and those guys are gonna get tired of chasing and they're gonna start missing races and save the money and go into Disney . You gotta love this level playing field , yeah it really does the crate motor .
Speaker 6I'm excited to be a part of this part of racing because I firmly believe in it .
Speaker 2So , along with the racing , though there's there's the the street performance side of it , the hot rodders . You know that if you're building a car and you want a crate motor , I mean , that's an easy way to get your crate mode , get a motor and transmission together to put in there you can rely on and a fully integrated system .
Speaker 4You know , that's , that's the beauty of what General Motors does is it's a fully integrated System . The engine and transmission are paired together and the ECM controls both of them , knowing what each Each of them can do . So it's it's .
Speaker 1It's basically a plug-and-play and I just looked online and it's really an easy thing to remember RDC 123.com Rogers dab , chevrolet performance .
Speaker 6That's right how did , I do . You're awesome , as usual .
Speaker 3We're gonna roll your commercial right out of the box here , yeah so , gina , we love you .
Speaker 1Thank you , it's great to talk to you and we will be in touch soon .
Speaker 6All right guys . Thank you very much , looking forward to it .
